The Perfect Costume

Mr. Perfect has been looking through all his books trying to get ideas on what to wear for Halloween. 

 

Of course he doesn't want to be a doggie because he was that last year.

Plus this year he really wanted to be something a little tougher & more mature than a doggie....After all he is a little over 18 months now.

So after calling a few friends to find out what they were going to be......

He decided on a LION!!!!!!

And Grammy agreed it is the PERFECT costume for him.

and much more mature! :0)

Round & Round They Go

When decorating  the inside of my house for fall I noticed that nearly all my containers were round.......I like the way items look when placed in a round container.

This large round bowl on my dinning room table holds pears, pomegranates & blue squash.

I love the color combination of the fruit.

This round iron container holds dried hydrangeas. 

Acorn ornaments fill this little bowl on my coffee table.

Garden roses are placed in this round vase.

This little antique bowl holds natural acorns in my kitchen.

Large paper-mache acorns fill this blue china bowl.

I hope you are having fun placing touches of fall "round" your house.

Move Over Summer Fall Is Knocking On The Door!

  I know the official date for fall is sometime next week but when I put the pumpkins out summer is over at our house.  This week the leaves even started turning a wee bit.  REALLY!!!!

I love the way they look on the path leading up to my front door.  Their colors stand out so nice against the stone.

  

A sweet friend of mine brought me these beautiful pumpkins.....

Aren't the colors lovely?

These larger pumpkins will be great for carving.

Before long I will replace my begonias with pansies. 

   

But right now they look great among the pumpkins.....

All this talk about pumpkins has made me hungry for pumpkin pie.....

Why does everything come back around to food?!!!

It Is Time For The Talk

Excuse me while I talk to myself for just a moment....

Jules, you know Thanksgiving is Thursday......  Do your best to make the day as pleasant as possible.  Here are a few things you tell yourself every year and I am reminding you of them again so you won't get caught up in a downward spiral.  You know what I am talking about Jules because you have been there before.

1. Have things as organized as possible for the day.  Things always go smoother that way.  Accomplish as much as you can beforehand so you can enjoy your guest.  
2. Get plenty of rest since you are the hostess and it is better when the hostess is not going on 3 hours of sleep. 
3.  It is nice that things look lovely Jules, but don't put that in front of function or people.  
4.   When if comments are said that are less than umm, tactful.... just let it go and don't stew over them.  
5.  Jules pray that on that day you will be calm, kind, joyful as well as thankful for the gift of family and food. Also pray about any possible "hairy situations"  beforehand and then don't worry about them even if they happen....... you can't  control the universe.
6.  Last but not least.....Jules, this is becoming a problem with you.....You HAVE to share Mr. Perfect!  He has two great grands that love him, two aunts, a great pops, a pops & an uncle.  They can hold him when you are in the room..... AND don't you dare go in and check on him when he is sleeping and accidently wake him up!     

Boy, am I glad that talk is over! 

  

A Note of Thanks

Thanksgiving is two weeks from tomorrow!

I know we are thinking about recipe's, travel & time with loved ones.

Along with those things I want to toss something else out for you to consider....

Several years ago I got an unexpected Thanksgiving note in the mail on a beautiful note card.

The hand written message began like this....Each year at Thanksgiving I like to write a note of appreciation to those who have been extra special to me or my family.....

The note went on to say why she was specifically grateful for our family that year.

I was touched and encouraged beyond measure.  I had never heard of this Thanksgiving Tradition before.    

This couple has made it a practice to write 3 to 5 letters every November to families and individuals that have touched their lives in one way or another that year.  

What an incredible gift of gratitude to give to others.  It took time, thought & humility.

This time of year we often give away can goods, loose change & extra coats......Why not give out a sincere letter of thanks.....hand written, thought through, honest thanks...for the people who have touched our lives in a special way....it may be in a small way but in way that deserves an extra thanks.

Wouldn't this be an awesome Thanksgiving Tradition to start?

When It's over it's over...

Oh, I am happy to announce who did change their mind about dressing up after all!

I don't think she really wanted to as much as the two girls down the street were and she didn't want them to out do her.....

What Could I be?

I have decided I am dressing up for Halloween!  To make up for the years I wish I had but didn't cause I was too "mature".....

Why let the kids...

and the dogs

have all the fun?

Sooooo  I went to Target to look for a costume, cause I don't won't to break the bank with this childish brilliant idea!

This is what I found....

 

There was a time when I thought it would be nice to be Wonder Woman but that does not appeal to me now so I continued to shop and considered this....

 

In case you didn't recognize her it is Dorothy on the Wizard of Oz..... I mean.... I do..... have a dog that looks like Toto.  

But she really didn't want to play along, remember?

Then I found someone I dreamed of being when I was little.....

I dream of Jeannie!  But there is no way this big bottom could fit I just wasn't feelin it!

So maybe I should just be an.....

Nah....

I really don't want to scare the little kiddies...

Or confuse them....

So on second thought........ maybe I will just wear my robe....

and pass out candy...........and leave dressing up....

What's The Fuss?

OK, many of us have either talked about fall decorating or showed our decorations on our blogs.

Myself included....

We are really getting into this fall decorating thing...

It is something chicks like to do....

We do this for several different reasons...

I want you to consider this reason....it was passed on to me by a mother of three young boys....this is her youngest son speaking...so please give him your full attention.

“Mommy, when are you going to put out our fall decorations?” Well, what I didn’t tell him was that my fall decorations consisted of a fall wreath on the front door. He kept asking me all week, when I was going to decorate like “Mrs. Sucha across the street.”

After awhile of this, he called me out on the front porch, and he had taken a halloween jackolantern bucket, placed it on a table, and put a football in the top of it. He was so proud of his decoration!

Well, that did it. I got a hay bale, a scarecrow, 2 mums, a big pumpkin, and a few other things, and now he has his fall décor. After he saw it, he looked across the street, and said, “Wow! Mom, now we have MORE decorations that Mrs. Sucha!”

Isn't that precious! Having his decorations out made him feel special, secure, part of a family!

Think about the atmosphere it creates in your home. The signal that it is sending to your family...

It is important to them that we celebrate. Not that it is designer perfect but that it is age appropriate and FUN!

So go out there and get you some pumpkins!

And put some smiles on some faces!

It Wasn't That Bad

If someone would of told me that my weekend would include Corvettes, Cornbread & Christmas Decorations I would of said you were crazy!

But in fact that is actually what it was full of.

My hubbie happily announced on Thursday that a Corvette show was in a nearby town and it would be a great thing for us to attend...Us as in he and I....

This event is very important to him....no we do not own a corvette.....yet.....But the hubbie has been dreaming since I met him 30 years ago.

It has been a hard thing for him to justify with raising 3 girls, college, weddings......you get the drift....

I have managed to dodge this ridiculous interesting event the past few years....Hubbie has gone alone, with his best guy friend and with our youngest daughter. NOW.....My time had arrived!

So, I put on my happy face and went along with him. It was a beautiful day and I thought at least we will be outside and together.

When we arrived I was shocked to see the sea of cars!

Every color....

and year imaginable!

And we he studied each one very carefully.....

Yep he kept that grin on his face the entire time.....No he did not arrive with the Corvette hat.... we bought it here.

Evidently real corvette lovers have the attire to prove it.

While hubbie had his head stuck in this car......

I spotted this sign....

And had to step inside. They had the seasonal cookbooks that I love!

Then I saw this sign....

and ran in before I was missed & came out with these....

Lighted Christmas boxes! A must have for the bench on my front porch come December.

All the looking was making me us hungry and I scoped this place out for us to recharge our batteries... (I know NOT funny)

We had a great lunch and crawled back into our not corvette car and came home full of cornbread and packed with Christmas decor......

Oh, and one more little thing.........

the T-shirt to prove we had been there.
