I have set the table.....
and the girls in my bible study are coming over.
We have just finished our study for the semester and we are having a celebration lunch together.
I posted about the book we studied in the past but I must give it another plug.
Dr. Charles Stanley identifies seven destructive temptations and gives Christians the hope and skills they need to live an abundant and obedient life.
All 9 of us agree that this is one of, if not thee, best book we have ever studied in a group bible study before. If you are looking for a book to give this Christmas it is great and you can order the study guide too.
The verse I have used to summaries our study is Proverbs 27v7.."He who is full loathes honey but to the hungry even the bitter taste sweet".
For years I did not understand this verse and it really bothered me. I am not saying I understand it completely but to me it is saying that when we are full of self and not wanting to grow and learn, content with where we are in our walk with Christ we will only desire to hear the sweet truths in scripture. But for those that hunger to grow and walk with God, the bitter, hard things that scripture says will even be sweet to the soul. Rebuke can be sweet to a soul eager to grow and change. Conviction can be sweet!
This is exactly what we have experienced through this study. Some weeks we cried as we shared about the bitter work the Holy Spirit was, and continues to do, in our lives.
But today we celebrate....
with food and fellowship....what God has done in our hearts....the Bitter Sweet!
